Tax documents inaccurate
In order to file a tax return to SARS in any year you are dependent on receiving an accurate IT3b tax certificate from FNB stating per account number and the interest earned during that tax year. However, this information should also replicate what FNB sends to SARS in order to pre-populate your ITR12 document. Unfortunately, in this case, my IT3(b) does not match my SARS pre-populated ITR12. Trying to get this information corrected, either by visiting the local branch or using the call center, is where any help is smothered. They politely answer "how can we help you", but after mentioning the word tax, either the phone goes dead, or they will claim a bad line and attempt to transfer the call to someone else, after which the phone goes dead, again. The best you get at branch level is being told that their calculations are correct and as the customer, it is expected of you to request SARS to make the adjustments. Impossible, as only the bank can do this on their system. I am of the opinion that there is no one at branch level that understands how SARS works. The client or SARS has no right or power to change any data provided by any tax document source, i.e. FNB in this case. They need to sort it out inhouse and appoint responsible people for generating IT3(b) documents with correct information and submit these to the client and SARS.
