Tap and pay, no way out

Visited my local branch at Northgate this morning to deactivate the new "tap and pay" function on my cheque card that FNB activated without my consent. This is a feature that allows a card holder to pay for goods and services without entering a pin.

Customer Care lady informs me "you can't remove it, its a standard feature on all FNB cards". How is it that I can't protect my money by removing this feature?!
