Taking advantage of retirees
On the 24th of June 2020, my domestic worker went into the York Street FNB Branch (George) to get her UIF (UI 2.8) form completed and stamped. She was assisted by a customer service agent (Bridget Koerie). After standing in the que for 2.5 hours she was assisted with the UIF form, but, then Bridget opened a savings account for her against her will and without having request it. When she got hoem she told me the bank opened a new account for he and she is now forced to pay R50 per month into this account. I have been trying to speak to somebody at the branch about this but it is impossible these days to make contact with a branch manage. You have to communicate via your app or log a query. I don't have all the facts yet but it was definitely not in the client's best interest to open this account. I am convinced the customer service agent did this because they are earning commission on new accounts open or their performance bonuses are linked to this behaviour. The fact is they took advantage of a retired person that qualifies for a small pension every month that now have to pay R50 per month into an account that she doesn't need and which she is going to pay bank fees on!
