Swiping = Cash Transactions

I got charged interest this month on my credit card, after contacting the supposed team of bankers they informed me its due to a cash transaction. I don't do cash transaction on my credit card nor do I draw cash at ATM's. I only do cashup back at checkers using my cheque account.

Anyways the supposed "Cash" transaction refers to me swiping my credit card. How can I know the difference between a cash transaction and a normal transaction if both are done in the same manner by swiping or tapping a card?

Surely you need to inform you customers before they swipe that this will be seen as a cash transaction?

Just to clear things up, this wasn't neither my or fnbs fault but the merchant the purchase was done at, unfortunately the merchant banks with standard bank and the merchant should warn customers that swipe are cash withdrawals beforehand. Needless to say this means I will never use this merchant again,however it can happen with any merchant.
