Swallowed card

Went to withdraw money at FNB atm at Industria branch. Machine was working fine as customer infront of me withdraw money. I proceeded to withdraw money and the machine gave a massage of recovering data then went offline 5-10min after that. Called the branch manager who was no help at all as they could not say why the machine did it. Say my card is faulty and they can't give back my card even after they recover if from the machine. I have to now go and spend unnecesarry money to get a new bank card.
