Sent to Debt Collectors for R100 Without Proper Notice

I recently discovered that my former business account was referred to debt collectors for an outstanding balance of approximately R100.

At no point did I receive a formal email, statement, or written notification informing me that the account would be closed or that an amount was outstanding. The first communication I received regarding this matter was from a debt collection agency.

Escalating a client directly to debt collection without prior notification or an opportunity to settle the amount directly with the bank is concerning. Proper communication should occur before such action is taken, regardless of the amount involved.

I request written clarification on:

When and how the alleged account closure notice was sent.

When and how notice of the outstanding balance was communicated.

Why the matter was escalated to debt collectors without prior engagement.

I have now settled the outstanding amount in good faith and request written confirmation that the account is closed and that no adverse credit reporting has occurred.

SMS alerts of balance do not constitute adequate formal notice of account closure or escalation to debt collection. Such matters require clear written communication giving the client reasonable opportunity to settle the balance before referral to a third party. I require these

proof of notification: • Email records • Secure banking messages • Letters • Statements showing the balance

For escalation to ombudsman

Kind regards,
