Rip-off service fees
I just purchased R700 electricity on the FNB app and was whacked with a service fee of R135.91! What a rip-off! How is this even justifiable? After the service fee and VAT is removed, I have 229.30 to get me to the end of the month. I've never had this issue with Capitec. I've seen many other people complain about these ridiculous service fees over the years (now that I'm searching) and I can't believe that FNB is still billing them. Surely this is *****?

05 Feb 2022, 20:04I recently discovered, after one of your consultants brought it to my attention, that the “service fee” that appears on the transaction receipt refers more to the service fee charged by the municipality than the service fee charged by the bank. Sadly, because this is not specified, and having relocated from a municipality that charges next to zero for service fees, I presumed this was a bank service fee. Apologies to FNB for assuming you were ripping me off. Turns out it’s the municipality! I hope this helps other consumers who might experience these charges being deducted and wonder why they are being **********.
