R5000 ***** case and it is not FNBs problem
On the morning of the 27th of March 2019 I went to the Total garage in Main Street, Witfield to inflate my car’s tyre. When they were busy with this I thought let me go and draw cash at the FNB ATM inside the garage. There were two younger ladies in front of me, one looking at magazines and the other one busy at the ATM, so I waited my turn. When they walked away together I then started my transaction. I put my card in, put in my pin and then the home screen/main menu came up. Most of the withdrawal options were grey and I wanted more cash that what the screen showed, so I assumed that there was either no cash or not enough money in the ATM, I then cancelled the entire transaction and got my card back from the ATM. I then decided that I would rather draw the money at the mall as I work in East Rand Mall. I got to the mall and went to the ATM and then proceeded to carry on with the transaction as I had done before, but the ATM gave me a slip saying that they can’t help me at this stage and that I must either try another ATM or call the branch. While I was busy with this my phone was in my bag and I only saw the messages from FNB afterwards (as they send me my transaction details via sms), when I checked them I only saw the message that the ATM had given me above. I then decided then to leave it for my lunch break and went to the FNB branch itself where I tried all the ATM’s just to get the same message each time. At this point I went into the branch where I was told it was because I had already withdrawn R5000.00 that morning. I told the lady that I did not withdraw the money in the morning as there was not enough available cash and cancelled the transaction entirely. What she did then was log a case. Later that same afternoon I went on to my online banking and only then did I see that it shows the R5000.00 withdrawal from the Total Garage in Witfield, I then went back to the bank and proceeded to cancel my card and open a ***** case with the same lady I had spoken to earlier as I never completed my transaction at the garage (i.e withdrawal) at the garage itself. A week has since passed and I have received and email from FNB saying that it is not their problem, the only explanation would be for me to have given my card and pin to someone. It was mentioned to me by the bank that the investigation will take quite some time as it is an outside/external ATM and they have to send someone out to investigate, look at footage from the camera and count the cash at that ATM for that day. I feel that this was not handled correctly and not done. It is easy for FNB to tell me that it is not their problem. I then spoke to FNBs ***** department and their resolution to this situation is for me to lodge another case or complaint to disprove the initial investigations outcome.
