Pure Frustration

I have been on the FNB Connect network for about 5 months (me loving FNB and all). Sadly though their network is terrible and I want to move to a different network provider.

I am on a month to month contract with them so, no particularly heavy handed terms and conditions etc.

The problems however started today when I requested a port to my hopefully new network:

call 1: Port request was for prepaid and not Contract. Port declined (my mistake for thinking that the agreement was technically on prepaid)

call 2: Port attempt 2: Declined as a result of unpaid account although the invoice clearly states payment due on 1 June. I pay and start port process again (slightly frustrated that I wasn't told this on call 1 and that it's not in arrears)

call 3: Port declined: Sim card soft locked as result of arrears account (growing frustration)

call 4-5: Port still being declined. I am told that I have to have the sim card from new network in a phone to port. I then contact new network and explain. They say it's impossible because the sim is inactive (sounds like they at least know what they are talking about) but try it anyway. another port request and declined again.

call 6-9: back and forth from FNb connect consultants and Retentions department. I am now told that I have to pay R150 cancellation fee. After request reasons etc. and explaining that it just sounds stupid. I get told that unfortunately thats the way it is. After a brief discussion on the application of the Consumer Protection Act, I came to the conclussion that FNB must be completely mad - the "contract" I have with them, as it stands is worth R20 a month. (definately sounds like a reasonable cancellation fee to me. Also no amount stipulated in their terms and conditions)

Further to this, I am then told that because I am on a month-to-month contract there is no cancellation period for me and I can only request my number to be moved to prepaid.

Thus, from the above, I have come to the conclusion that:

FNB Connect is entirely useless as a network provider

You can never cancel an agreement with them

The Consumer Protection Act, clearly does not apply and they will rip you off with "unreasonable" cancellation fees.

They can't give the correct information on the first go.

Thank you for not helping me today!
