Public Recipient fiasco

I made payment to the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) using the FNB online banking platform. I searched for GIBS on the public recipient option using the name and found one recipient and made payment. Upon receiving the proof of payment I noticed that the banking details are different from what GIBs had sent. I immediately called the call centre and the agent said there is nothing they can do as the payment had already gone through. I then decided to call the ***** department, as I felt FNB is liable to make sure that public recipients are verified and not for *****ulant public recipients. The gentleman at the ***** department said the first agent was lying and he would transfer me to another department that would send me a reversal form to complete. The third agent confirmed that FNB does not reverse payments for public recipients. While I understand that it's the university's responsibility to make sure that their details are up to date, is it not also the bank's responsibility to make sure that a public recipient's details are not changed '*****ulently'? I will call the university first thing tomorrow morning to check if the one on the FNB public recipient's list is their bank account.
