Paying R7000.00 for FNB bank charges

FNB bank made me to pay for the money I did not borrow. I once got unemployed in 2015, I had an account with fnb unfortunately I did not close that account as I was no longer working. Initially someone phoned and told that I was owing R700.00 but I told them that I am not working. They keep on pressurizing me to pay for the account, still I told them that I am unemployed. When I asked them to close the account the was that they cannot close the account as I was owing them the bank charges. You cannot believe that this R700.00 for charges went up to R7000.00. When is asked why is it so much they said that these were bank charges. I have got employed in June 2019 its when I started paying +/-R200.00 towards these charges but its not going down. When I asked why they told that my account is still charging me monthly. Write now I do not know what to do if someone can help me in regard I would appreciate.
