Pathetic service, useless employees
Since December I have been unemployed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, thus I can not pay any of my debts. My Insurance, Medical Aid, Funeral Plans, etc lapsed due to unpaid premiums. I get harassed by emails, phone calls and sms's from FNB on a daily basis, every time it is somebody else and every time I have to tell that person the same story. I spent more than 2 and a half hours in the bank 2 weeksm ago to try and close my accounts, which they refused to do until I bring my accounts up to date. They offered to freeze my accounts, because every time a debit order gets processed without sufficient funds in my account, they charge me R110 penalty, per debit order. Now, with the month of May having begun, I observed threough my banking app, that I still get penalised for every debit order, as they apparently did not freeze my account! My cheque account is now overdrawn by almost R2000 while I don't have any overdraft on my account, all of this just penalties! What must I still do to get my account frozen so my debt doesn't increase?
Dear Mr Erasmus,
Trust that you are well.
Your complaint with regards to switching to the fusion select account holds reference, the Bank responds as follows:
The matter was referred to the Credit department and they have advised that the credit application was unsuccessful due to your credit profile. Remember that this product has credit implications. As per the NCA law, it is a requirement to assess your credit applications based on Income & Expenditure together with an ITC check. Should one of these factors be in question, the bank is not in a position to override the outcome.
This often prevents us from extending credit facilities to clients due to higher risk factors. The bank also has to protect you and ourselves against reckless lending practices. This is all governed by the National Credit Act.

Now the first thing to note here is the fact that your reply does not mention my actual complaint of 10 May. Not (un)surprising is the fact that you twist the facts to suit your own needs and to sooth your own conscience. What about the fact that I had to spend more than 180 minutes in the Mokopane branch and then had to walk away, being more stressed and angry than when I got there!? What about the fact that I had to do the work of the supervisor, by the name of Lebo, after I got home? I had to print statements, send emails and make phone calls to get the required information on the Covid-19 Relief Fund, which I enquired in the bank as well! Something that she was not capable of bothered to do? What about the fact that my account was not frozen so that my debt won't increase, as per your reply that your decisions are all based on protecting the customer and the bank? All the way only the bank gets protected and gets the best side of the deal. How am I protected against having to pay the exorbitant monthly fees of the bank? How am I being protected against having to pay the exorbitant penalties for unsuccessful debit orders? When I pay money in for the purpose of bringing my credit card or personal loan or revolving loan debt down, it gets absorbed by the cheque account being in an increasing overdraft! How does your decision protect me from this!
Don't talk **** to me, I am not a *****! As long as my account stays active and you keep increasing my debt, I will not pay you a cent, even if I had any! I am also going to take this matter further to the banking ombudsman!
