OVER A MONTH WAITING FOR CERTIFICATE OF BALANCE
I reported my late mother’s passing to FNB in 2021 and opened a late estate account. On 8 August 2025, I submitted all required documents for a certificate of balance.
It has now been over a month with no certificate issued, despite my repeated follow-ups and being told the matter is “escalated.” For comparison, another bank issued the same certificate in just 2 days.
This delay is unacceptable. If not resolved urgently, I will escalate this matter to the Banking Ombudsman of South Africa.

24 Sept 2025, 00:32I would like to update my complaint regarding FNB’s handling of my late mother’s estate.
FNB is now claiming that each time they request a document (e.g. a simple ID copy, which has already been sent), the 31-business-day turnaround time starts all over again. This is unreasonable and unfair.
The original instructions and documents were submitted on 8 August 2025, yet FNB is attempting to push the timeline out further by resetting the clock with every small request. By this logic, the matter could be delayed indefinitely, which is unacceptable.
The estate account has been with FNB since 2021, and another bank issued the same certificate in just 2 days. FNB’s handling of this case is causing unnecessary stress and delays in winding up the estate.
If this is not urgently resolved within the original 31-business-day period from 8 August 2025, I will escalate the matter to the Banking Ombudsman of South Africa.
