Not much help when needed?

A week ago on the 11th June 2016, my cellphone, R3000 and bank card ****** in Carlswald Shopping Centre, New Road, Midrand.

The sequence of events prior and post my account being de*****ed are rather quite disturbing, I still believe it could have been mitigated.

I withdrew money R3000, leaving a balance of R221, went back to my car and I was carrying my 17 month old son who was a bit restless. One guy approaches me, small talk selling appliances claiming to work for Solomons, I question how he gets the items he is selling. His phone rings says his other customer is here to collect. When we reach the car I opened the back seat of my car, put in the pocket of the door, money, cellphone and card. I put my son on the back seat of my car, to change his nappy at that point he had started crying. When I was focussed on the baby, he must have used that as opportunity to take the items as I was done with my son, he was nowhere in sight.

As I realised my cellphone and cash is gone, I rushed to the Carlswald branch. The lady issuing tickets named Yonela, I told her my cellphone and cash was ******, my card is also missing. I need to deactivate the linked money market account, to which she responded a consultant will have to assist me, pointing to the queue of people sitting waiting to be assisted. I then went to the online banking kiosk, logged in, realised the money had not been touched and with her (Yonela) assistance, reduced my inter account transfers to R1000, payments to third party to R1000.

I went to the car again to fetch my sons bottle as he was crying, as I rush back to the bank they were closing only letting people out.

I stood at the door begging that lady (Yonela) to open for me, she did not. I was assisted by a lady who was walking out of the bank, seeing my desperation, she lent me her phone and we called the FNB call centre listed on the door of the bank. I deactivated all devices linked to my account, internet banking, card.

What frustrates me is that I was referred to Mall of Africa as they close at 3pm on Sat, because I wanted to close the whole account, so no activity can take place. I rush to mall of Africa find the bank closed just after 2pm, the lady manager on site that Sat was literally closing the door.

I have never felt so helpless, I drove back home and my brother whom I had informed of what happened then called the FNB branch at the airport, the lady said we should come to the branch to see if anything has happened to the account they cannot just close it. I got there and was informed of R120,000 ATM transfer and R55, 000 purchase at Cavallo using my card. I completed a form and until now zero contact from FNB. I will be contacted within 7 working days. The question I asked is how was the parameter set of R1000 overriden, to which the consultant responded that ATM transfers have no limit. Why have the control if it can easily be bridged by another access point.

I am in the dark, more questions than answers. I reported the incident with security at the shopping centre the following day, to discover that I am not the first FNB client to be ****** that week, where is the awareness? My pin, how did they access my pin. Was one of them in the queue. How do es an FNB employee close the door, when you can clearly see someone is in destitute?

When I was the OR Tambo branch I was told my account is frozen, I can only do direct withdrawals from the bank.

Tuesday I go to ****arney, to withdraw cash the consultant says we can issue a temporary card and you can withdraw and do POS transaction. I informed him of what I was advised at the airport, he advised that it was not stated anywhere in my account. Eventually a temp card has been issued and I am currently able to make purchases with that said there balance of the money transferred to my cheque not used is still there.

The consultant at ****arney of ***** being 6 weeks investigation, disputes being 7 working days asking me which form I completed kanti is not reflected in the system what my current query is.

With each passing day, I am more uneasy and feel helpless.
