Non service from RMB Private Bank

Long story; bear with me. I have changed my banking in the early 90's to a bank called Origin Bank, which I think were the first to offer a "bankless banking" experience in SA. The service was wonderful, and they had a very good "Single Facility" (SF) account, and all your needs were sorted out by a private banker (PB). At some stage they were taken over, or changed (I can't remember the details) by/to RMB Private Bank. Apart from the name change, everything else remained the same. In the late 90's they merged and became part of FNB, and for the first couple of years the service still remained good, but the wheels are coming of now. Fast.

Strike 1: I currently work outside the country, and are paid in dollars. Beginning of last year I was advised by my PB that I can open a Global Account (GA), which will relieve the schlepp every month with forex coming into my account via a string of e-mails. If I have the GA, the forex is paid into this, and I can transfer the money at my leisure as and how I want to into my SF. I opened the account immediately, but when I tried to transfer the money, it would not list my SF account. After several complaints, I was eventually told that the GA facility is not available for the SF account, and that I must open a cheque account to be able to enjoy the full functionality of my GA. I argued that the SF is a cheque account, as I have a cheque book, but no, the SF is not supported by the GA. I admitted defeat and moved on.

Strike 2: I tried in December to order forex online, as I have done a couple of times before. Everything went swimmingly, until I must select the account that must fund the withdrawal, and I get a blank. So I cannot order forex online. Got in touch with my resourceful PB, and after two months of e-mails back and forth, I got the lame excuse that they cannot link my account as me and my wife is joint owners of the account. I Googled the pitfalls of jointly owned bank accounts, thinking there might be a legal reason for this, but could not find anything relating to having diminished functionality.

I then decided to escalate the matter, and I went to their website, and selected "Compliments and complaints" under the “Contact Us” tab. I compiled a long e-mail and bombed it off to ********** awaiting swift and decisive action. That was last Friday. Nothing happened, so I decided to phone them on the numbers listed ( ********** /6 or
********** ). Okay, you all guessed it, the numbers do not work!

Strike 3: The idiots they use to courier the bank cards. I'm not even going to relate that episode (just look for CCD Couriers complaints on Hello Peter).

So if a banking service dish out e-mail addresses and contact details ON THEIR WEBSITE that is wrong, then I think it is time to take my money elsewhere. They either don’t know how to configure their systems, OR they don’t want to support the SF (it was an product they inherited), OR they simply don’t care.
