No feedback after requesting Credit Card account closure

I went to my FNB branch, hoping to close my FNB accounts since they are no longer being used. The bank consultant told me that I would need to close my Credit Card account before being able to close my other accounts. Closing the Credit Card account would be as easy as filling in a form (with which she helped) and then emailing it to the relevant department. I was told that I would be contacted within 2-3 business days by FNB to confirm the closure of the account.

Unfortunately I have not been contacted in the last week, which is unacceptable. After scouring the internet, I can also not see any alternative but to return to the branch to (once again) close the credit card account. There are no instructions online that explain how to close an account like this, and when dialling the customer care numbers I am greeted with the "we are experiencing abnormally high call volumes" lie (when the call volume is always abnormally high, then certainly it is not abnormal anymore?).

I have been a big fan of FNB in the past, and have actually referred many people to bank with them because of the ease of use of their online banking. However, this interaction with them is leaving me with a sour aftertaste, since there is no resolution to my problem and I will need to hold FNB's hand during the closure of my account.

Reviewer Update

I was contacted a few times by FNB after posting this complaint. They let me know that they could see the order to cancel the account on their systems and apologised for not getting back to me. They promised to get back to me within 24-48 hours to confirm the closure of the account, which has now subsequently happened via email.
