New debit order setting on FNB's site *****s over normal consumers

I woke up this morning to a demand depost of R1969 going off my account under the name of Vodacom. I was completely shocked and outraged!!! I do not even have a contract with Vodacom. I immediately contact FNB and they tell me this debit order cannot be reversed due to a new setting instituted during covid time. So now I am being targeted by ********, and due to FNB I lose the money? This is unacceptable. Thanks to FNB I can not pay my bills this month. They told me they wold lodge my query and get back to me in 7 days!!! Only 7 days? I asked what can I do to prevent this from happening again. They could not give me an answer. It is clear that this has happend to a lot of other people and fnb just throws their hands in the air and does nothing. Please understand there are lots of us during this time who are struggling financially and your incompetence to protect is when we are most vulnerable during the covid pandemic is shocking. I will not be able to pay my bills this month if this transaction is not immediately reversed.

Dear FNB,

Thank you for your standard reply.

Can you please institute a policy where you request permission from account holders before just loading random debit orders?

It is unacceptable how you just load debit orders without obtaining your client's permission.
