New customer but appalling experience

On 13 March 2017 I app**** for an FNB account online, having heard good reviews about FNB from my colleauges, friends and family members. I comp**** with online regulations and sent all FICA related documents to the documents department for verification and registration. I received my card and confirmation that it is active. I sent a request to my employer to pay my salary to FNB and they duly comp****.

To my dismay, I did not receive my salary for the month. I enquired with my employer and they confirmed that the salary had been paid to the new FNB account. I decided to go to the nearest FNB branch to establish what the problem is. In the age of technology and speedy customer service, I presumed the problem would be sorted within my lunch hour. Alas! I was at the branch for over two hours, having waited for more than 45 minutes to speak to a consultant.

Ms Justus, based at the Table View branch assisted me. She noted that there was a "block" on the account. She contacted the KYC department that confirmed receipt of all my documents and further confirmed they were FICA compliant. She was referred to the ***** department as the block seemed to have been administered from their department. The ***** department referred her to KYC. KYC referred her to *****. ***** referred her to KYC. KYC referred her to *****, both blaiming the other for the block. It was a ping pong of phone calls from one department to the other, with Ms Justus being given about 7 different numbers to call to resolve the problem. I waited.

Eventually, the block seemed to have been administerd at the ***** department. The person who adminsitered the block apparently is the ONLY person that can remove it. Ms Justus contacted him to establish the reason for the block and the suspected *****; I had to have my thumb fingerprints taken for the block to be removed. I must mentioned that on Saturday 25 March 2017 I went into the branch to reset my bank card pin and had the same fingerprints taken.

Firstly, how do you identity a "non-compliance" as *****? I say non-compliance in reference to the fingerprints that needed to be taken. Why was I not notified that I had not "comp****" with their requirements if they were under this perception and I can go into a branch to sort the problem?

I am in a profession where reputation, integrity, goodwill are everything. Everyday I do my best to conduct myself accordingly as the existence of my career depends on this. Imagine sitting in a branch and there are suggestions that you commit ***** and how damaging that can be to my reputation. People can draw negative inferences about me and I do not even have control over that. Those are things FNB cant give me back.

For me to have such an experience as a new customer is thoroughly dissappointing in ways I cannot even describe. My time was wasted and I had to incovenience my employer with my unplanned absence.

I must commend Ms Justus for the excellent service she offered. She was persistent and kept me informed.

I have received confirmation that the block has been removed. I am still without my salary...
