Must go into a branch to close an account during the third wave of a pandemic

FNB will not close an account unless I go physically into the branch? I wonder what world FNB operate in that makes them oblivious to the state of the country and the third wave which is driving infections to new heights. Are you exempt from government regulations? Why can you not close the account online? Why must I risk exposure to Covid?
