Mismanagement from FNB Short Term Insurance.
FNB short insurance should NEVER be trusted or used. I have NEVER had an experience like this with any insurance before. I've moved over to FNB Short-term Insurance (car and household) as all my bank accounts are with FNB too, which meant that I could get more eBuck at the time.
I have paid my premiums without fail. In November I changed bank accounts and wanted to update my bank details with the insurance. The new bank account is also with FNB, so it shouldn't have been a problem. I was informed, that the Insurance can not just update my bank account for the debit order and that the policy needs to go into review. After a week and a half, I've been informed that the bank account has been updated. The debit order went off on the 1st of Dec, but it was from the old account again and not the new account. I phoned several times to try and sort it out. I also asked if I could pay that premium manually until they have sorted out their admin, but I was just tole NO. Manual payments are not possible.
After another week of back and forth, I left a complaint with FNB short-term insurance. A manager from complaints called me. I explained the situation to him. he assured me that he would personally investigate what was happening and get back to me. I have received no feedback, nothing back as yet.
On the 27th Dec I was called by a consultant who said she received a request to cancel my insurance and if that was correct. I admit that I exploded. Especially after I tried several times from my side to resolve the issue and to pay the outstanding premium.
On the 31st Dec, a car drove into my car on my way back to Cape Town from my family in Nelspruit.
When I called the insurance this morning (2nd Jan 2024), they told me I had no insurance with them. After being on the phone for over an hour and a half to try and get it resolved, I was told the policy had been cancelled in December 2023 and that I needed to make an upfront payment for both December and January before a new policy could be opened.
They are not willing to assist with anything else.
This means I have to pay the excess, and 2 month's premiums in one go. That is more than the damage to my vehicle!
This was the last of a few issues with FNB short-term insurance. Unfortunately, FNB in general has completely lost credibility and I will move over to a different bank and a different insurance. My account has been riddled with mistakes over the last 3 years that have cost me dearly. Once a great bank, is now a bank that can not be trusted and WILL mismanage your finances and any cover that you might have with them.
