Life as a Refugee in South Africa

I am so disappointed to see that my own banker can’t assist me with finances in getting a car just because I am a refugee.

Yes, I am a refugee and I am proud to stand and fight the battles of life just like any other human being with equal rights to life. A document or a territory can’t define my capacity to live life but my determination in fighting to realise a dream.

I have a South African Refugee ID which is a South African ID, I have an asylum and I have a certification letter for Permanent Residency and a valid drivers licence.

Why am I rejected when requesting to be financed for a car? And yet with the same documents I have built a credit record and have a bank account with you.

I have been with you in my lowest times and still with you even while building my dream and fighting for my life purpose. And through it all my own banker can’t even be of a hand in supporting my growth but only aims to bring me down just because I am a refugee.

I am an African and I came seeking refuge in neighbouring countries because I am still in my continent and I do believe as African women with a dream in hand I deserve to be treated equally and all that I want is to be given the right to live just like any other human bring living in their continent.
