IS YOUR MONEY SAFE WITH FNB?
I have been banking with FNB for years and I am sad to say that I dont feel that my money is safe with them. Also, their customer service in the ***** department is terrible. Two days after my salary was paid into my account on 29/05/2020 i had about R994 taken from my account. I contacted FNB and they confirmed that it was a card purchase to an online portuguese store which i have never heard of and on top of that I never received an OTP authorizing this payment. I obviously got upset as I made a purchase a day prior to that and i was not able to make the purchase without the OTP yet complete strangers are able to do this. She then told me that not all sites are part of the VISA platform and that they dont need an OTP to make purchases online. I then logged a ***** case and they then cancelled my card but was assured that i can transact cardlessly until the ***** department has sorted out the case. Monday evening 01/06/2020 when i checked my history online the money was back in my account and there was no record of the transaction. This morning 03/06/2020 @1am this morning, the same online store took R1005 from my account while i was asleep. I contacted the ***** department and i was told that the initial amount was just reserved and that today it was actually debited and that the amount is higher because of the exchange rate. In my opinion it is utter ******* that they were able to actually debit while my card is cancelled and my account is under investigation - Should they not have stopped this because it was debited if they were monitoring my account? The lady i spoke to this morning was rude - i asked if my money is safe with FNB and if i need to move to another bank and she told me that it is my choice in a very dont care attitude. She said that she had reversed the payment and that the investigation is ongoing. I then enquired about getting a new card and she transferred me to a colleague in the very same department (not sure if she just did not want to help or what her problem was). I then spoke to a gentleman who assisted me with ordering a new card but he then could not see if the previous lady reversed the funds or not and that they are investigating whether or not i am at fault and it will take 5-10 working days before they refund me or not. I have received 3 different stories and i think it is nonsense that i should wait so long after i was told that the refund was done on FNB's side while i was on the line yet someone else tells me they cant see it. What kind of system is FNB using? Why are payments allowed to go through without verification - if you are allowing payments to go through, surely you can stop it. Nobody at FNB can assure me that i am safe when banking with them so what is the point of all the so called safety measures they put in place. I will be moving to another bank once my funds are returned and cancelling everything i have with FNB
