Incorrect Banking Charge

On 3 February a fee was deducted off my account without my authorisation.

From what I understand this is due to the account going into overdaft:

1. I never approved to have an overdraft fascility active and even specifically requested when I joined in 2012 that I don't want this. It is for security reasons so that money can't be taken from my account without my authorisation.

2. FNB should not have allowed this debit order to go off as I didn't authorise it. What controls are in place to ensure you verify my approval of debit orders that are done against my account?

I have raised the issue with the Premier Banking Team and instead of trying to assist me, I was told that this was system generated and it is not FNB's problem that an incorrect debit order was done. What happend to "How can we help you"?

I was very shocked when my call to resolve this querry was turned around into a sales pitch. I was being sold additional banking services.

After escalating to the relevant manager, I received an email saying that I now have a negative profile with FNB:

"If the debit order is unpaid due to insufficient funds, this does negatively affect your profile with ourselves."

The email then ends with: "I also noted that you currently avail of our Premier offering, could we look at potentially upgrading your banking profile to Private Clients?"

It seems it is all about sales and nobody really cares about the issue I have raised.

I have always been very praising of FNB's services and therefore I have chosen to have my banking, vehicle finance and 2 property loans with you.

Please can you advise on my issue as I would like to give FNB a fair chance to review before escalating to the Ombudsman.
