Incompetence At It's Worst

During 2016 my husband & I settled ALL our debt with FNB. We (as per instructions from FNB staff) sent a joint letter (signed by both my husband & myself) instructing FNB to close ALL our accounts. This letter was sent to them for the first time on 2016-07-26 and subsequently eight (8) times thereafter. So, over a period of almost 10 months, eventually they managed to close the majority of the accounts. I also do have power of attorney to conduct business on my husband's behalf. Since August 2016, I have requested paid up letters for my husband's cheque account. I have received these letters on 2017-01*-18; 2017-03-27; 2017-05-11 consecutively, but these letters simply state that FNB confirms that, "We confirm that this account is repaid with FNB. We confirm that the account is still open and the client is still liable for all fees and charges". Every time I received the same letter and every time I have sent mails back to FNB informing them that we gave instructions for this account to be closed and that we refuse to be held liable for any further charges. I have also made numerous calls to FNB in this regard, but to absolutely NO avail. I have also still being receiving statements (via email) for my husband's cheque account - indicating that the account is still open - and this despite the ridiculous amount of emails and calls in which they have been instructed to close the account. Eventually, by the 22 August 2017 out of sheer desperation, I called FNB Premier banking to try and sort out the matter. The consultant with whom I dealt (Lena) told me that we are now liable for the amount of ±R241-86 due on the account now for "fees and charges" - and this after the account was actually in credit of R318-64 on 2017-05-01. I explained to her that I refuse to pay this money in view of the fact that FNB has been given instructions since July 2016 to close this account. She informed me that she would send a mail to the "Accounts closure department" to contact me to resolve this matter and that they should contact me within 24 - 48 working hours later. She even sent me a reference number for my call via sms (RI ********** 22747). I received that sms on 2017-08-22. To date however I have STILL had NO feedback from FNB, the account remains open and I assume that FNB thinks that I am going to pay them the debit amount outstanding? I REFUSE and quite frankly in an economy where service is already ridiculously pathetic, FNB takes 1st place in the worst service delivery.
