Impossible to close accounts, charges continue

I went into an FNB earlier this week, to reduce my credit accounts to a simple easy account. This involved taking out the easy account, which was fantastically fast and simple, however to close my credit card account, the consultant couldn't help me, and said I had to call the call centre to cancel. I did this, waited for 15min on hold until my call was dropped. Similar difficulties with successive calls.

Why must I spend R50 on phone calls attempting to close my accounts? Why does the usual customer service answer in a minute, but the cancellations department takes half hour? Either FNB is making it difficult to close accounts, or their account closing department is overloaded on account of people moving to elsewhere, likely Capitec (which I recently heard is no1 bank in the world and I can believe it).

On top of that, my account had a positive balance, and was ready to be closed, however I see this morning the monthly fees were charged to my account once more, putting my account in arrears and now I have to spend time transferring money again into the account from Capitec to settle before I can close the account, all because your cancellations department does not work properly.

One of many reasons I am pleased to be moving away from FNB, and why one of the best things I did last year was move everything over to Capitec. Night and day difference. Earning high interests on positive balance offsets eBucks by a long shot too...I get rewarded far more at capitec, and I don't have to qualify or study pages and pages of terms and conditions just to figure out how to increase rewards.

I've been with FNB for 9 years, and used to be a fan, however the last 2 or three years have just been a downward trend.
