Impossible process to get a credit card?
I tried to open a bank account and credit card at the same time with FNB.
The account application went well and I received my card after a few days. Cudos to that team for having their ducks in a row.
However the credit card application was painful. Below is a list of what went wrong 1) I forwarded my outstanding documents more than once and did not get acknowledgement 2) They only realized they did not process my documents after I called to follow up and was not able to give me a reason why. Yet they kept sending emails to activate my online banking which I said I would do once credit card application was completed 3) I acknowledge that they emailed me a few times to call them back. (Presumably after I followed up as per above with them on why I have not heard from them). Once I called them back they could not clearly articulate what was wrong and kept saying I need to talk to another department which they could not put me through to. 4) Apparantly something changed on my score and they wanted me to go through the whole process again, I think because I could get a higher limit (they could not say for sure). This after I explicitly requested a lower limit when I got my initial quote. So I think (even though nobody can articulate for sure) that they wanted to force me to go through a process again for a higher limit that I explicitly stated I did not want. 5) They told me that somebody would call me back at an agreed time to go through this process. I told them to please not be late as that was the only time that worked for me. They were late and I missed the call as I told them would happen. 6) I called again to follow up today. I was on the phone for more than 30 minutes only to be told my application was deleted after they missed their phone call to me last week. 7) They wanted me to re-apply and I refused as they have all my information and I requested that they re-instate my previous application. 8) Then they told me to send new documents in order to process the application because so much time has passed. Again I told them that if the documents were previously sufficient surely it still is now - surely their internal issues should not result in yet even more admin for me. 9) They advised me that they can’t agree on a time to call me to resolve th issue as it is not guaranteed they will call then. 10) I asked to either get a quote from them in writing today to finalize the new application,or confirmation in writing that they do not want to proceed with me as a client. They confirmed I will get something in writing today. I received nothing.
This has been incredibly frustrating and I either want a final credit application done in the next day or I want them to stop the cheque account and not be a client at all. But they seem unable to resolve anything when you are on the phone with them. I spend most of my life in meetings so need them to be able to resolve things when we speak.
FNB please sort this out or cancel my account.
