Immediate Action Required – Unexplained Account Restriction

My name is Emmanuel O, and I have been an FNB client since 2011.

On Saturday, 22 November, I completed a Binance P2P transaction in which I sold USDT and received a Rand payment into my FNB account. This is a routine transaction I have carried out for over two years without any issues.

A few hours later, without any notice, call, alert, or explanation, my account was suddenly restricted. A friend to whom I had made a payment from these funds also had his account restricted. Both of us were left unable to access our accounts with no communication from FNB.

Despite several attempts, I could not reach anyone from FNB for assistance over the weekend.

On Monday, 24 November, I visited The Glen branch, where I was informed that my account had been flagged for ***** linked to the transaction received on Saturday. I was given a reference number and told that a representative would contact me urgently.

As of Wednesday, no one has contacted me. There has been no call, no email, and no update of any kind.

I have been a loyal FNB customer for over a decade, and the handling of this matter is unacceptable. Restricting a customer’s primary bank account without any form of communication or follow-up is extremely disruptive and shows a lack of regard for customer welfare.

I am also aware that similar cases have been delayed for long periods without clarity, which is worrying. I hope this will not be the situation in my case.

I am therefore requesting the following:

1. A detailed written explanation of why my account was flagged, including all findings that led to the restriction.

2. A clear, step-by-step outline of the process FNB will follow to resolve this matter.

3. A defined timeline for when my account will be fully restored.

4. Confirmation that communication regarding this matter will be handled promptly and transparently.

I expect this issue to be treated urgently. Having my account frozen without warning is highly distressing, and I am entitled to answers in writing.

Thank you. Emmanuel O.

This is now over a week since my account was restricted, and I have still not received a single call, email, or any form of communication from FNB. This level of silence is extremely disturbing for a bank that claims to put customers first. It is both shocking and unacceptable.

My funds remain inaccessible, my primary account is unusable, and I am no closer to understanding why this happened or when it will be resolved. There has been no update, no feedback, and no indication that any progress is being made.

I am requesting immediate clarification, immediate feedback, and immediate action. This delay is causing significant inconvenience and unnecessary stress. Please treat this matter with the urgency it requires.

My account has now been reactivated after nearly a month. There was no communication from FNB whatsoever—no call, no email, no explanation. I only became aware that my account was active when a debit order from RAIN (my ISP) went through today, 31 December 2025.

This level of communication failure is completely unacceptable.

What makes this situation even more baffling is that my friend, whom I paid on 22 November, still does not have access to his funds. This is illogical and indefensible. If my account has been cleared and reinstated, why is his account still restricted? The funds in question originated from my account, which FNB has now clearly deemed legitimate and fit for use.

I paid my friend R6,000 on 22 November to cover his rental. His FNB account ending in 9388 remains blocked, and he has been unable to access his own money for over a month. This has caused real financial harm and unnecessary distress.

I am urgently demanding that his account be reactivated immediately.

The handling of this matter demonstrates severe inconsistency and operational incompetence. FNB acted swiftly to restrict accounts without warning, yet after reinstating mine, has made no effort to resolve the direct downstream impact on an innocent third party. How does this process work? How does this make any logical or procedural sense?

Furthermore, I formally express my dissatisfaction with FNB’s complete lack of transparency and communication throughout this entire ordeal. As a customer of over a decade, I find this treatment deeply disrespectful and unprofessional. Customers should never have to discover that their accounts have been restored by accident through debit orders.

I expect an immediate response, a clear written explanation of what occurred, and urgent corrective action to resolve my friend’s account restriction. This matter has already gone on far beyond what is reasonable.
