I'm working in South Korea. FNB locked my account. They're not being helpful at all. My life is being made very difficult now.

**I would like to preface this review by saying that I am not the type of person who enjoys complaining at all and I don't hold anything against the employees who helped me over the phone - I believe they tried the best in their capabilities to help me and I wish them all the best. However, I'm very disappointed with FNB as a whole for making my life so difficult by locking my savings account with no explanation why, and requiring unreasonable sacrifice from me, as someone who lives and works abroad - to be able to unlock it again.

So, ever since I got my savings account opened a few years ago, I've been using it faithfully and loyally every month or two weeks, mostly to send money to my family from South Korea where I live and work. I tried sending them money again earlier this week, when I was suddenly notified that I can't make the payment because my account has been blocked. No warning beforehand - it's just blocked. It stated that the reason could be either because of insufficient funds or inactivity, but I know for a fact that is not the case.

As I am unable to use my SA sim card/phone number to make an international call (because I forgot to change the roaming option before coming back to Korea from visiting my family in SA a while back (I accept responsibility for that stupid mistake)), I had to spend about R500 on Skype credit to call FNB and find out why my account has been unlocked and how the problem can be resolved.

I was helped and, although I still don't know why my account has been locked in the first place, I was asked to send my current address and proof of residence via email to FNB to be able to unlock my account. I made haste and sent it as soon as possible, eagerly waiting for a response. More than a day goes by - no response at all.

So, I have to spend ANOTHER R500 on Skype credit to call them back to see if they got my email and what their response is. I waited and waited, finally to be informed that the information I sent them can't be used because they don't understand the address, even though I translated it to them into English (also, I know other companies such as DHL can understand this exact address, as we've sent packages to SA using that exact address, so why can't FNB? It's really not complicated at all??).

All hope sank from my body when they then told me that they can only unlock my account if I can send them a new document with proof of residence that they can understand better, which would require me using a whole leave day, spending it on driving for 5 hours to the SA embassy in Seoul, asking for the document, spending another 5 hours to drive back, sending it via email to FNB, probably not getting a response again unless I spend another R500 on Skype credit to be able to reach out and see whether they got the new document, and most likely being told that it's still not good enough and that they still won't be able to unlock my account. I don't know what to do and I feel like FNB is treating a loyal customer with very little concern or care. I've always talked FNB up to everyone I knew, but now I'm honestly starting to regret it.

All I want is to send some money to my family from my account. I just want to help them. If FNB wants to lock my account so desperately, they can do it after I take the money from it. Then they can lock it as much as it brings them happiness. I just want to send money to my family, for goodness' sake.

I'm very disappointed and I just don't feel hopeful at all about this situation.
