How long does it take to close an FNB account/s?

I wasn't going to complain, but people should know what poor service is. As of today, I am officially a former client of FNB. I had been planning to leave them for several months after discovering a different, new bank. Behold my 'fantastic' experience with FNB: In February I settled my credit card account with them in full, never having missed a single payment. Once I received the confirmation that the account had been settled, I requested that it be closed. This was on February 17 of 2024. During May, I also opted to close my transaction account, which admittedly I owed a service fee on. I had no trouble with paying this, except that it had to be done in-bank, with physical cash, as for some silly reason the bank is unable to accept a card payment in-person. Issues aside, closing that account took longer than necessary. Back to the credit card account, since I digress. It was with further 'excitement' that I received an SMS from FNB this month, stating that I owed the bank R42.31 on my credit card account. 'How could this be', I wondered, as I recalled having closed the account. This however, was not the case, as FNB never closed the account as requested. The account was very much alive and well, and FNB had continued to bill monthly service charges for said account, without informing me of as much. Only when the account fell into arrears on said service fees did FNB see fit to reach out. Today I got in touch with FNB, asked the bank why they didn't close the account, got transferred to the credit department, which somehow at that time decided to miraculously close said account. Note however, that when I paid the account in full in February, I paid an additional amount over what was necessary so as to settle the account. The settlement amount was provided by the bank, and did indeed exceed what was outstanding by maybe R130 at the time. I assumed this was some sort of account fee for it to be settled/processed/whatever. So, essentially, FNB failed to close the account and continued to deduct service fees for it. Needless to say, I'm happy to have this chapter of my baking life closed.
