How can we NOT help you?

We purchased a townhouse as an investment in 2008. We have had ups and downs with tenants but had a bad experience with ******* tenants over a year ago which left us without 6 months of rental as well as R30k odd in needed renovations and repairs. So I approached the bank to try and get access to available funds in the bond, and was basically informed that due to a few late payments (because of delay between banks!!) our bond structure was changed and we basically couldnt access those funds.... as far as we were aware when we signed up it was an access bond. Anyway... we tried to plod on as we didnt have the cash in hand, and couldnt do the alterations - ie make the property secure and put a wall up etc. Now we have ******* squatters in our unit, and have to go through the courts to evict them. Gee - now you find out that the only ones benefiting in all this are the squatters and lawyers, and now banks! I phoned the fnb helpline to inform of our situation, believing this is the right thing to do .. and basically was informed that fnb could only help us when the repayments/bond goes into arrears. No we can stop repayments by 6 months and then just add 6 months to your bond repayment time. No nothing..... so basically I should just stop paying my bond and then someone will give enough of a **** to phone me and try and assist. Really - is this what our country is coming to? We must just all become lawless? I am trying to do the right thing by not defaulting on our homeloan. Oh and apparently FNB are supposed to phone the client when a payment is not made... i have never received personal call from anyone... just an sms! I cannot believe that there is nothing FNB can do .... we give you 20-25 years of repayments, and all Im asking for is a breather for 6 months!!!
