Horrible Service

The service I received from FNB is absolutely pathetic and I was a Private Client. I can only imagine the service they provide to their Gold and Platinum customers if Private Clients are treated in that manner. I queried a number of times why my home loan rate was above Prime when I was a private client and had an excellent credit score. After numerous attempts to have my rate reviewed, FNB came back to me with a rate that was worse than their competitors were offering.

ABSA offered me the best rate and I subsequently moved my home loan to ABSA. I further downgraded my account from Private to Gold as there was no additional benefit in being a Private client.

On closing my account, FNB provided a settlement figure of R909939.59 to ABSA attorneys in order to have my bond closed off with FNB. This amount included an additional debit order amount which I queried as at the time that FNB gave cancellation figures, the outstanding amount with FNB was actually R891000. So an additional amount of just over R18000 (FNB debit order) was paid at part of the settlement figure. I was informed that the additional amount that I queried would be refunded to me once FNB took off their charges. FNB would then send me what is remaining of the +R18000. The settlement figure was put together in June 2016.

Because the property was only transferred to ABSA in July, FNB deducted a further debit order of over R18000 on 1 July 2016 as per their normal debit order. If FNB took the last debit order into account then the amount outstanding on the FNB bond would have gone down to roughly R880000.

After FNB would have deducted their last outstanding amount, that would have left FNB with approximately R30000 to settle any other fees like attorney’s fees etc… There was no ESF (Early Settlement Figure) as I placed notice on my account 3 months before FNB received the instruction from ABSA. FNB attorneys are Schindlers. By my calculations, Schindlers fees amounted to R3348.74.

FNB only transferred R18953.52. What other fees could FNB have deducted from the R30000 other than the attorney fees? An amount of almost R10000 is still not accounted for. I am waiting for a breakdown of monies deducted by the FNB appointed attorneys but have not received anything yet.

Even after closing my account with FNB, I still receive horrible service.

I will be closing my downgraded Gold Account soon and will also get my wife, brothers and parents to move their accounts from FNB. Ironically , I convinced my family to join FNB, now I guess it is time to convince them to reconsider using FNB as they will probably get better rates elsewhere.

Unfortunately, FNB has lost their focus on Customer Service
