Home loan
A couple of years ago Fnb offered me a beter rate on my home loan if I switch my banking to them which I did and they then had a compulsory life cover condition. I have just bought my second property and accepted my bond with Fnb to find out that no longer do they require just life cover the policy has to have dread disease and disability etc which add’s a further R1000pm to my expenses. How does the middle class consumer afford to live if a client accepts a bond at Fnb. My logic says help the consumer so that they do not default on repayments instead of adding additional monthly commitments. Fnb it is sad to say but your compulsory product to have a full comprehensive life cover up until R1mill covers the lower end of the market and it is those consumers dream which you are taking away from them. People cannot afford to pay an additional premium of R1000pm extra due your internal product requirement. No other Financial institution has this requirement for compulsory life cover why is Fnb making a potential dream come true to own their own home so impossible. I need advice does the bank have the right to insist on this type of life cover? The public needs to know about this before they accept a bond from Fnb up until a bond amount of R1mill.
