Goodbye and good riddance

I have had an account with FNB for 20 years. My husband works for a competitor, and I have refused to change banks, even though he has been offered staff rates. I argued that being a loyal customer means that when I need them, it would be easier as they have all my information, including a record of income, and accordingly would give me a favourable interest rate and a quick response if I ever needed.

I was so wrong.

I attempted to increase my credit card limit on the 15th of May. The quote, which I accepted, offered me a 21.8% interest rate, which is much higher than I anticipated - disappointing. Regardless, I accepted the quote, and I was just waiting for a debit mandate request. To date, I have not received the increase.

I contacted the call centre and was told to send three months' bank statements as proof of income. I almost fell off my chair, You are my bank; you have all of this? I then visited my branch to follow up. I was told that I received a number of emails requesting proof of income. I never received any of these emails. The lady gave me an email address to send my documents. I sent everything through on the 30th of May. Since then, I have phoned EVERY day, sometimes multiple times a day, to follow up - a waste of time. I was told I need to redo my application, which I did. All my debit orders bounced because the money did not come through in time. I incurred additional fees for these.

You have let me down.

I have now opened the account with my husband's employer, am in the process of moving all my debit orders and employer payments, and I will be closing my 20-year-old FNB account within the month.

Thanks for nothing!
