Funeral plan doesn't cover funeral - it's a burden

<p>"Planning a funeral is always a difficult time for any family, that's why our Funeral Plan is easy to understand and even easier to buy with great value for your money. We will pay out claims within 48 hours of receiving all the required documents so you can have financial peace of mind knowing that you and your loved ones are covered in this unfortunate event." - This is on FNB's website under funeral plan. My sister maintained a policy with FNB through her bank account, naming my mother the beneficiary, who subsequently claimed after my sister's death in February. Part of the "required documents" is a full pathology report which is usually only available several months later. I was eventually able to send them the document on the 2nd August. On Monday, I called to enquire on the status, as they still had not contacted my mother, which really bothered me. That's 3 weeks without a word. My mother is struggling to deal effectively with her daughter's death and having to deal with something that my mother regards as part of the burial process is not helping in the least. There has been absolutely no peace of mind. - Thanks FNB. Quite frankly, I don't care whether FNB pays or not, I just want it to be over. If you had said NO after 48 hours, we would have been further along in the healing process. If this funeral plan with FNB did not exist, we would all have been a lot better off. I cancelled my funeral plan with FNB on Monday, one that I had for more than 5 years now, because I don't want my wife or mother to go through this when I die. The funeral plan is supposed to create peace of mind for me and my family, now (because I know it's covered) and during a very emotional and stressful time. Either pay the claim or repudiate it, but please stop dragging it out.</p>
