Funds gone to conveniently hidden charges

I have just closed my son's transac savings account due to so many hidden costs and being reminded by FNB that the monthly fee is very small (never mind the other charges). As he is at school you would expect low charges on an account as students do not have fixed salaries. Image my dismay when I discovered that he was charged R8-50 each time there was a decline due to insufficient funds when he swiped the card - note that there was also no SMS's sent as a warning while the bank was happily deducting funds. Now imagine this 19 times on one day when he does not even have the card with him. When I approached FNB with the problem they offered to refund part of the money but offered a replacement card due to possible *****. What we were not told was that the replacement card cost R100-00 (another deduction). At the end of the day my son's funds were wiped out and to add salt to the wound, I had to pay in R24-00 to be able to close the account.

FNB - thank you for the fantastic service and the way you conveniently hide charges so as to take a student's money. By the way, your web site is quite useless in explaining all the charges. The average person will get lost trying to figure it all out. He worked for the money which he now does not have anymore due to you. He does however have an ABSA account which he will now use. I personally bank with ABSA and have never yet experienced such pathetic service. I still struggle to understand why you take R8-50 per shot when there is no money in the account and this all in the name of making a profit.
