Frustrated with FNB's Device Verification Process
My recent experience with FNB has been nothing short of a nightmare, all thanks to their convoluted and ineffective device verification process.
I first encountered an issue when I tried to access FNB's website. The site informed me that I needed to use a verified browser or app, so I attempted to verify my device. However, when I tried to run the FNB app on my phone, I was met with an error stating that my device wasn't secure and that my data was at risk. This was baffling, as I knew my device was perfectly secure. I even ran RootChecker, which confirmed that my device wasn't rooted.
I reached out to FNB's developers, but received no reply for two days. When I finally got through to customer care, they insisted that my device was rooted, despite my evidence to the contrary. A trip to the bank proved equally fruitless — they took my fingerprints but were still unable to verify my device or browser.
After multiple attempts to communicate with the developers and sending the same proof over and over again, I finally received a response suggesting a workaround: uninstall the app, force stop the Google Play Store app, clear its data, restart it, and then reinstall the FNB app. Why was I not told this from the beginning instead of being advised to take my device to Samsung? This is absolutely pathetic customer service.
Even after getting the app to run on my phone and tablet, I was hit with another ridiculous requirement: I needed to make a payment of more than R300 from the device and then wait seven days for it to be verified. This is an absurd demand to place on customers.
Overall, FNB's device verification process is confusing, inconvenient, and unnecessarily complicated. It feels like they are placing the burden of their system's shortcomings on their customers. I sincerely hope FNB reconsiders this approach, as it is driving customers like myself to the brink of frustration.
