Freezing accounts with no notification

Yesterday I received an sms stating that my accounts will be frozen due to outstanding FICA. Scared that it might be a **** I phoned FNB enquiries to find out what was going on.

I have not been requested to submit any documentation recently and have been a client of FNB for years. We went through this process a long time ago.

The lady in the call centre advised that the sms in a legitimate one, but that it was sent to me in error and that I have nothing to worry about.

This morning while trying to make a purchase I found that my accounts have been frozen after a declined transaction!

When I phoned again they could not answer any of my questions. They just said I need to submit documents.

Is FNB just freezing accounts without proper notification or request for documents?
Is FNB not training staff to advise properly?
