***** within FNB?

On 5/01/2023, I received notification that my FNB bank card had been cancelled. I contacted FNB via their secure chat on the App and spoke to a lady named Janine who first advised that it was due to expire the next day 6/01/2023 (this is not true, it was still valid until June - 06/2023). Janine then said that the card details were compromised hence the unauthorised cancellation. I informed her that I am currently in Portugal (I had advised FNB of my status) and am now in a real pickle as I am cardless and unable to access any funds. She attempted to transfer me to the ***** department but was unsuccessful. I then called the ***** department, but was cut off after 30 minutes waiting as the call rates are very high internationally and now I was out of airtime! Today I contacted FNB again - surprise, Janine was on the other side. She again tried to connect me to the ***** department. It has been almost 2 hours with no response via the FNB secure chat. And they don't seem to offer any kind of call-back service? I cannot accept unathorised actions on my accounts/cards/etc. I should have been notified before any action was taken. Seriously FNB!? What am I meant to do? Come in to my branch, all the way from Portugal!? Pathetic.

Thank you for responding to my complaint FNB staff – I am still awaiting a reply from the secure chat on the App - but it seems that the only way to get help is to complain, not contact FNB directly - as you'll just be put on hold, waiting for help for over 3 hours :(

I do appreciate you logging a formal complaint on my behalf to the relevant department... however, I am still in a foreign country, with no access to my funds.

It is now almost April and I've still received no joy from FNB.

After this HelloPeter review, I was contacted by the "Retail Recover Team" to be informed that my card was actually cancelled as it did not align with my cheque account (I had downgraded to a savings account but had been assured that I could continue to use my card until expiry). Supposedly, communications had been sent out towards the end of last year to inform me of this issue. I was then advised that my current account is an Easy Savings account, and it must be converted to a cheque account to enable for a new debit card to be issued for international delivery. The account can be converted back to an Easy Savings account upon card issuance.

Clearly that would leave me in exactly the same situation I was already in (Easy Savings account with a Cheque card), which was supposedly not allowed?

I rep**** to the FNB staff member on 10 January, have followed up twice via email, but have STILL not received any response.

Personally I think this is ridiculous and am considering withdrawing my funds from FNB and changing to another bank.
