Forcing Customers to go to branches during a third Wave

My wife wants to close her Cheque account and they will not allow her to do it over the phone. They say she must go into the bank and close it there. During a pandemic FNB has lost touch of how to keep their customers safe by forcing them to go into the banks and perform a administrative task that should be easy to do over the phone.

I am appalled by this action.

During the third wave FNB still insists that my wife risk her safety and go into a branch and close her account in person. Nedbank and other banks do this for you on the phone as they are concerned with the safety of their customers and staff. I battle to understand FNB as they are very quick to have their staff work from home but put their customers at risk by requesting that they perform a simple administrative task at a branch during a third wave.

Please have this escalated to someone senior as your agents response is downright poor.

Dear Mr Ruben dos Reis

Thank you for your email./ Apologies for the delay with response.

Kindly be advised that you have to visit the branch as they need to authenticate you in order for the account to be closed.

Regards,
