FNB's response to AspireYouth's application for COVID-19 loan

This review pertains to the Govt loan scheme to support SMME's during the COVID-19 pandemic. I have followed every channel through my bank FNB to secure a loan of about R200k to mitigate lost revenue during the South African lock-down. FNB has declined this loan stating that my 6-year old business is to much of a credit risk, based on the fact that it is running at a loss. Given the fact that I was unable to operate for almost 2-months- yes the business has operated at a loss. However the business has a 6 year operational history as a social enterprise supporting income generation for youth who are at the base of the economic pyramid. My understanding is that FNB is running this loan scheme as per their normal business regulations, not based on the commitment expressed by President Ramaphosa. I think FNB's lack of engagement / response to the impact of the pandemic on my business demonstrates a very poor response to the reality faced by small businesses. If I have to close AspireYouth, it will directly effect the income of 30 South African youth. Thanks FNB - appreciate the support during this time
