FNB's 55 days interest free credit card is a BLATANT LIE

Just some background: I usually pay my credit card every month, just because it usually makes sense to do so, as I usually only use it for monthly spending. This month I had to make a large purchase, and wanted to utilize the full 55 days of interest free credit that I thought I had available on my FNB credit card. When I looked at my statement to try to figure out when exactly day 55 is, so that I can set a reminder to make the payment, I realized the payment date occurs every 30 days. This did not make sense so I tried to contact FNB for some guidance.

I tried to email twice over the course of 4 days, no response. I tried to phone, and was on hold for 15min with no sign of life before I gave up. Then I tried the FNB app's secure chat, and being number 250 in the queue (seriously, I'm not even kidding) I waited 59 minutes to be able to talk to a consultant.

Said consultant was most unhelpful in explaining to me how the 55 day interest free period worked. I tried to explain that according to my previous statement, my previous Payment Due Date was 1 April. According to my last statement, the following Payment Due Date is apparently today, 2 May. That's a period of 31 days by my count, not 55 days.

When I had to ask repeatedly for him to please explain how my 55 days period worked if I had to repay the full balance every 30 days, I got the following response: "From 7 March to 7 April, that gives you 30 days. From the 7th to the 1st of every month that is 25 days. There is your 55 days."

When I responded that that it does not make sense for any "monthly" payment arrangement to be a 55 day period, she promptly disconnected, and my query again joined the back of the queue, at number 189 this time.

So what I learned was, when FNB says you get 55 days interest free on your credit card, what they really mean is you get 30 days interest free. If you are under the impression that you have 55 days to pay off your credit purchases in full before incurring interest, be warned that you actually only have 30 days interest free. Go one day over and you already incur interest on the full balance for the whole month.

If you were, for example, to repay your entire balance on day 55, as one would be inclined to do if you were under the impression that you had 55 days of interest free credit, be warned that you will incur interest on your entire balance for the entire period (i.e. you will be charged interest on the full amount for 55 days).

I am just shocked an appalled by how blatantly FNB lies to its clients. The 55 days interest free thing is absolute ****, and I CANNOT WAIT to cancel all my accounts with this thieving institution.
