FNB/RMB unable to justify settlement amount for Covid loan after more than a month

Like many people my income was also reduced during the initial Covid19 lockdown period. I approached FNB/RMB requesting cashflow relief for my accounts and they then offered me their Covid relief loan product which I accepted.

I was a bit concerned as my private banker was not quite sure how the interest calculations would work, but I was reassured that this was a new product and fair principles would apply. By late June my financial position was back to normal again and I requested a settlement quote for the Covid loan. Up to this point no statements were available yet. I received the settlement quote on 26 June, and it was valid until 2 July. I settled this amount in full on 1 July. When I requested a statement of what made up the settlement amount, the initial breakdown did not add up to the quoted amount. I kept on requesting an update, which was eventually received on 13 July. This breakdown was again completely different and did also not add up to the quoted settlement value. On 14 July and 15 July my other private banker confirmed in writing that the loan was settled in full and was referred for closure, irrespective of the abovementioned contradictions. On 27 July my private banker phoned me and effectively informed me that a mistake was made and that there was still a significant outstanding amount to be settled. On 4 August I received a new settlement value, and then on 6 August I received a different settlement value again. The transaction summary which accompanied this settlement value did not tie up with what I could see in my account statements. I have now paid this settlement value, which is incorrect in my view, and have taken steps to move all my accounts away from FNB/RMB as this comedy of errors is simply unacceptable. After more than a month and 3 attempts of providing a settlement reconciliation, this is still open.
