FNB WILL NOT CLOSE DE-REGISTERED BUSINESS ACCOUNT
REF *** - We have voluntarily de-registered a business and formally instructed FNB to close the business bank account. FNB insist that the business must be re-registered then the account can be closed then the business can be de-registered again. A totally illogical attitude based on a technicality. Please let common sense prevail and just close the account. I will now have engage with the Banking Services Ombudsman. See FNB correspondence below. -----------------------------------------------
Hi Thapelo,
Thank you for your reply.
It does seem a waste of time, money and energy to apply to have the Company re-registered, the bank account closed and then apply for de-registration again. Do you agree?
As you rightly point out the company does not exist anymore so how can it have a bank account?
It would also be wrong for FNB to continue to levy monthly charges in this regard.
Would you please reconsider our request.
Thanks and regards

Good day
Hope this email finds you well
Unfortunately, we are not able to proceed with the account closure request. The company will have to be re-registered. Based on legislation, the effect of de-registration is that a company is deprived of its legal existence. The account holder (the de-registered company) has to apply for re-registration as contemplated under the Companies Act 2008. An updated registration certificate will need to be provided to the bank to process the closure request. Kind regards Thapelo Sesoko
