Fnb wants me to sink in debt

I have been retrenched since 2019 and I informed FNB however they refuse to close my account which keeps accumulating debt because of bank charges, someone recently called me and told me she will speak to her supervisor regarding closing my account and I have never heard from them ever since - if I can’t pay my loan account how will I be able to pay the bank charges?
