FNB virtual card fiasco
It's a tough battle to get to the top. When it comes to technology it's even harder to stay there. FNB is beginning to show strain. The app is increasingly jenky. The support structures, even if you are a private wealth client, very poor. "private bankers" are unreachable and most recently the virtual card fiasco.
They announced the perfect, safe virtual card that one could use on the internet. An alias that would hide the actual account that lay beneath.
Then months later they hadn't launched as the product was not ready for the real world. Then when other lesser banks best them to getting it to market they launched the half baked solution.
Half baked as it didn't have the most basic protections that the public had come to expect.
It does not have the ability to limit your exposure.
No daily limits. No monthly limits.
One could literally get cleaned out through these dangerous cards.
Bet they didn't tell you that on the box.
Then the other interesting bit.
For savvy clients who keep their unused cards in a temporary disabled state only to enable them just before using the card the virtual one had a real doozy of a problem. When you went to return that online purchase would the return be effected on a card that was temporarily disabled. I asked and nobody at FNB could answer. So I left the card active while I waited for the refund. Left a card that had no limits active I might add.
So no. It's half baked. My existing cards might be physical but they offer far more protection than this excuse for an offering.
I am collecting the formal complaint numbers.
Initially lots of people call, all fired up to help.
Lots of logging complaints and reference numbers.
Then nothing.
I assume that most clients are impressed when they get a call from the complaints department, giving them an official reference number.
In my case, I have been there.
For now I will not get too excited until I see some real results.

You cannot set a daily limit on these cards.
It can be used or abused to clean out your account.
The soft-lock that you might use to temporarily block the card can't be used where you are expecting a refund. So again you are exposed.
