FNB using clients accounts for financial gain
I had a checque account with FNB as well as two personal loans. Due to covid, my previous employers let me know in July 2020 that they won't be able to pay my full salary anymore, but would be able to pay me approximately only a third of my salary. I forwarded the letter from my employer, which was on a company letterhead, to all the companies I owe, letting them know that I won't be able to pay them untill further notice. I had to move out of my apartment, into a room, cause I have to survive now on a salary of only R6000, of which R3000 are being paid for rent, water and electricity at the room I had to move into. With the other R3000 I had to try and cover food, toiletries, my phone as well as my router, which are on contract. I've sent FNB and all other companies who are debiting my account the letter in July. All other companies immediately stopped debiting my account, accept FNB. I've decided to move my account temporarily untill I managed to have them stop debiting my account cause I've sent them a letter that I cannot afford to pay. In fact, I asked for a payment break from them for the two loans, and they told me that the Covid payment break had closed. I've told them that I'm applying for an ordinary payment break, because I can get it, because this is not a risk product like a life insurance or funeral cover. They refused. I've told them that they cannot force me to pay if they can see what my salary was comparing to proof which I send them of what it would be now. They just refused to assist me. I've decided to move my account. After moving my account temporarily, I tried several times to have them stop debiting my account. I was send from Pontius to Pilate between personal loans and collections. No one could deactivate the debit order on my account. After several attempts I gave up. They debited the account which was not in use for over a year, untill it reaches the amount of over R10000. They then change the Checque account number and the name of the Checque account and handed it over late last year. These debit order were for the two personal loans. I lost my job February 2021 and let them know, too. They said that I don't qualify for the insurance to pay for the loans, even though insurance was included in the loans. I did not bother, as I just wanted to notify them.
My questions to you, FNB, are the following: 1. Why were you forcing me to pay accounts after I've sent you proof that I cannot pay it? What right do you have to do so? 2. These two loans were not paid for, for over a year, yet you did not listed me on the credit bureau for that. Yes, you did not because 've sent you proof that I cannot pay. So, why still debiting my account? 3. You did not do your job on your side and I have to take the responsibility for that? Why? 4. You ran debit orders for two personal loans on an account which is not in use and you tell me that you do not pick that up, because it surely reversed every month for a year. Allowing the account to accumulate reversal charges, and expect me to pay for it? Why? 5. What was the purpose of you debiting my account for loans which I told you that I cannot pay, of which I sent you proof in the form of a letter on my company's letterhead? 6. Why was the Checque account numbers changed and the name of the account also changed? Did you realize that you made a mistake and want to hide it cause no one want to take responsibility? Well, that is not my account anymore. I never had an account with a name and number which you are providing me with. 6. May I please be provided with the statements of this account from June 2020 until it was closed?
You did not do your job by deactivating the debit orders for the two personal loans on my Checque account and you want me to pay for it. I won't do that. You can be ashamed of what you are doing to me as a client at a time that I came to you with proof regarding my financial situation. You are only helping yourself.
Should a judgment not have been logged as this account has been handed over for not less than 6 months?
My next step is the ombudsmen. If you don't come back to me within the next five working days, and we don't seem to find an agreement, I will approach the ombudsmen. I cannot believe how you treated me in the midst of covid where we all lost so much. You ever tried helping me. I'm just glad that I did what I was supposed to do as a client. Unlike you, all my other companies understood in the midst of a worldwide crisis.
Sincerely Elizabeth Isaaks
