FNB THE GREAT *******
I opened a Gold Business account with FNB in November 2019, of which I was issued with a Debit card. I am paying R390.00 monthly account fee. After few months I started receiving threatening smss from FNB saying my Credit Card is in arrears, of which I didn't own any credit card, so I assumed there's an error somewhere. I called my Private banker as a Private wealth client so she could look into this matter. To my shock she told me that I own a credit card facility and she was going to escalate this to the credit card division but she's unable to assist further as this Gold Business account is separate from Private Wealth, and she's only my private wealth banker, I understood. I told her I didn't have a credit card. Now during this long-term Lockdown I then realised that FNB was debiting R52.13 from this Gold Business account monthly, tracking was back to November 2019. All along I was not aware of this debit because the account always had money, but with the lockdown there was no money going into the account, hence I noticed the debit.
I went to The Glen Mall FNB branch in July to enquire about this R52.13 monthly debit, and after some few phone calls the consultant told me the amount was for the credit card. She told me that the debits were stopped that same July, last month (stopped by the bank). I told her that I didn't own a credit card. She then wrote an email to the credit card department, which later responded that I signed for it when I opened the account. The Bank consultant then sent me an email to say they will reverse all the debits back into my account from November 2019 to July 2020.
Two days later she sent me another email saying that they are not going to refund my money because I signed for the credit card, of which I don't remember requesting for a credit card because I was told I do not qualify because its a new account. I asked the credit card department three questions that I never got answers to till today. 1) Is it possible to have a credit card facility but not receive the credit card? 2) Is it possible to have a credit card facility which doesn't reflect on the Banking App? 3) Suppose I signed for the card, who then stopped the debit?
I am now frustrated because it seems their plan in the first place was to bill me for services I never received, on top of the monthly fee of R390.00. Should I call FNB a Big *******? I will be glad to get my money back. I work for every cent, FNB come and harvest it without a sweat, I'm greatly annoyed and disappointed at FNB.
Thank you DR RI Ngobeni
