FNB takes an hour to NOT cash a cheque

While attempting to cash an uncrossed cheque made out in my name, I was made to wait an unacceptable length of time (just short of an hour in the bank)while staff attempted to phone the issuing company concerned. Being a Saturday, and it being a corporate cheque, they were obviously unsuccessful. Is it FNB company policy to phone the issuer of every single cheque before they are willing to cash it? Would that not amount to thousands of phone calls daily, and an associated waste of thousands of man hours of staff and customers? While I understand that cheque ***** is a problem, is the fact that you have my SA ID book, and my left and my right thumb print not sufficient to identify me? Would you like a DNA sample? Should I pee in a little bottle for you too?<br> When I walked out of FNB, I was left with an overwhelming feeling of frustration at your system, but an almost equal feeling of relief that I am not a full time FNB customer.
