FNB takes advantage of young people
FNB recently notified me that I am pre-approved for up to R8000 loan. I’m trying to grow my credit so I decided to apply for it. The app took me to a page where I saw a sliding scale with amounts on it, the bottom amount being R0 and the top amount being R8000. When I moved the scale, it would show the corresponding monthly repayment amount below the total loan amount and it stated a 6 month repayment period.
I decided to go with only 5k, the repayments were around R1200 on the app application so I found it affordable. Come the end of the month, I’m looking for the exact minimum repayment amount so I can deposit it into the loan account and they tell me that it is a temporary loan which has to be paid within 31 days ? The agent then told ME to provide proof that what I was shown on the app was otherwise. How am I supposed to reasonably do this as a consumer ? I was not screen recording the application process.
I felt so taken advantage of and deceived. I know for a fact that what the app showed me IS DIFFERENT to what I got in the end which just feels disgusting a predatory. I lodged a complaint and no one even got back to me. If you are considering FNB as your bank as a young person, my advice is - DO NOT EVEN BOTHER. Just look at all the 1 star reviews that they don’t even care enough about to respond to. Ask yourself if this is the kind of experience you want.
In this economy, we need transparency from our banks. Now I am in a tough position as a young mum with no one from FNB interested in helping me, plus I have been singing FNBs praises since the moment I joined. So so disappointed…
