FNB Smart Devices - No Support / Poor Service

I am a Premier Client of FNB.

In April 2016 I bought a Sony Xperia M4 Aqua through FNB's Online platform.

Beginning of August the phone's speaker (located inside the earpiece) became defective (something I've learnt now is quite common with this particular model). The speaker in the earpiece is dead.

I phoned FNB and requested that my phone be replaced (as per the Consumer Protection Act where I as consumer have the right to request that a defective product can be replaced, repaired or refunded within 6 months from purchase ).

I was appalled and disgusted when an Operator at FNB Smart Devices told me that FNB only facilitates the purchase between myself and the supplier and that they don't get invlolved when a product becomes defective.

I was told that I have to drive all the way from Krugersdorp to the supplier in Boksburg (SSS Cellular), hand the phone in and then wait for it to be assesed and repaired (which can take weeks).

This is absolutely pathetic!!

Why is this now my problem? Why is FNB not willing to take any responsibility for getting this resolved?

It's like takealot.com saying you have to drive to Cape Town to exchange a product bought from them. Imagine if all retail stores had this attitude? FNB can sure learn a lot from takealot.com about customer service!

My advice to all potential customers thinking of buying ANYTHING through FNB - DON'T! If the product becomes defective you will have to do all the work to get it resolved yourself, FNB will give you no assistance.

Why do we as South Africans always have to fight for customer service and resort to legal action to get matters resolved?

I'm horrified to even mention that I have two homeloans, two motor vehicles financed and numerous products with FNB and this is the service I get.

FNB your customer service (or lack thereof) makes me nauseous!

francoistb rep**** privately:
FNB Smart Devices came back to me on 23/08/2016 and stated that they will collect the phone (which I would have to pay courier fees of R164.00 for).
They said they would be in contact with me to arrange collection. It is now 10 days later and I'm still sitting with a defective phone and nowhere closer to getting this issue resolved.
I WANT TO CANCEL THE CONTRACT WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT AND HEREBY REQUEST A REFUND OF R219.00 X 5 MONTHS.
FNB is unable to provide a reasonable service - I as consumer reserve the right to cancel / revoke my obligations with regards to inproper services / products rendered.
